Though he was accused by his contemporary and rival, Giovanni Baglione, as going against nature in his art, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio nevertheless had many followers in his lifetime, including Baglione. With his hyperrealist style and theatrically staged scenes, Caravaggio brushed against the grain of the established understanding of art and painting in 17th century Italy. Terah Walkup will explore Caravaggio's controversy and influence in Italy and beyond Italian borders, his street brawl escapades and his enormous talents as an artist. Coffee and early seating at 6:30. This program is presented in partnership with The Naperville Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago. Location: Meeting Room A/B Other Information: Room Limit:200
